Before you consider re-homing your dog, please contact me for a low-cost consultation. I want to do whatever I can to help your dog remain in their home. We can help with home management tools and ideas; training or other helpful resources to resolve issues that may be causing you to consider giving up your family member. The goal is for you to keep your dog.
A "no-kill" SHELTER cannot guarantee they will not euthanize your dog because most all dogs will develop some form of a behavior issue if they are in a shelter environment very long. Due to a shelter being an extremely loud and stressful environment, some dogs may become reactive toward people or other dogs; others may develop separation anxiety; some who were otherwise happy and outgoing in your home, may shut down completely. Dogs that are already shy or timid don't have a chance.
Most RESCUES will not be able to help because they rely on volunteer foster homes and have very limited space, funds and families to help. They focus on dogs already in shelters that are at-risk of being euthanized. Most provide assistances not only in Austin but to surrounding area shelters as well. Rescue's receive countless request each day from kill shelters to help dogs that have run out of time or they no longer have space for the ones that have been there the longest.
Shelters and Rescues are already full of dogs that others have abandon or didn’t plan ahead for job changes, moves, babies, tougher economic times, or seek help with a training or behavior issue before things got out of hand. Don't be one of those people. Instead let’s sit down together and see if we can come up with a workable solution before heading down that road.
For a one-time consultation I charge a very nominal fee to cover travel cost. I hope you will give this serious consideration and contact me before making the decision to give up your family member. Please complete an appointment request here and I will be in touch with you within 24 hours.
