Poochie2a

Like most, my love for animals began at a very early age, growing up with never less than 2 dogs in our household.  After my children were grown, I became involved in caring for and training dogs by becoming active in a rescue.  First for a local German Shepherd rescue group and then forming my own mixed breed non-profit rescue, Austin Dog Rescue in 2007.  Over the years my husband and I have welcomed over 300 dogs and puppies of every size age and breed in our home.

With my 10 years experience fostering, caring for and training every imaginable type of dog, in the summer of 2009 I decided to become a professional dog trainer.  Greg Sharp of Gateway Dog Training has been my mentor and he is a patient, wonderful trainer of dogs (and humans) and one that I will continue to learn from for years to come. I will always be grateful for his immediate acceptance of taking me on as a student.

joyce_pack2As a professional, I continually expand my learning by reading countless books by such renowned trainers such as Nicole Wilde, Pat Miller and Ian Dunbar.  I also have attended seminars such as Emma Parsons’ Click to Calm seminar on fearful and reactive dogs.  I also believe one of my greatest resource is the relationship I have with other experienced postive reinforcement trainers.

One of the most rewarding part of enhancing my abilities is what I learn from working with each dog and their owner.  I am always proud of the work they put into learning as much as they can and helping their dogs along the journey to becoming a well-mannered, welcome member of the family.  Read more about me and meet my pack!
